What Is the OverWatch Wastewater System?

OverWatch is Rhino Pumps' direct in-line wastewater pump system. Instead of collecting wastewater in an underground wet well before pumping, OverWatch moves wastewater directly from entry to discharge through a controlled, continuous flow path — eliminating the stagnant conditions that cause hydrogen sulfide buildup, odor, clogging, and confined space hazards.

Every OverWatch system is custom engineered to the site. Flow requirements, fluid characteristics, impeller selection, controls configuration, and SCADA integration are all specified for the application — not adapted from a standard package that was not designed for it.

The wet well problem: Traditional lift stations hold wastewater below grade in a collection tank, creating ideal conditions for hydrogen sulfide gas, ragging, and biological buildup. OverWatch eliminates the tank entirely — and with it, the maintenance burden, odor complaints, and confined space entry requirements that come with it.

OverWatch System Features

Wet Well Elimination

No underground collection tank means no H₂S accumulation, no ragging buildup in a confined space, and no confined space entry for routine maintenance.

Full SCADA and Telemetry Integration

Every OverWatch system integrates with SCADA and telemetry platforms for real-time monitoring, remote diagnostics, and alarm management from any location.

Custom Controls Package

Controls are engineered for each installation — including motor starters, VFDs, level sensing, flow measurement, and communication protocols matched to your existing infrastructure.

Multiple Impeller Configurations

Three impeller options cover the full range of wastewater conditions from high-rag municipal flows to high-solids pretreatment and sludge handling applications.

In-House Fabrication and Testing

Every OverWatch system is fabricated, assembled, painted, and tested at Rhino Pumps' facilities before shipping — no assembly surprises on site.

Installation and Commissioning Support

Rhino Pumps provides installation support and commissioning services to ensure the system performs to specification from day one.

Impeller Options for Municipal and Industrial Applications

Impeller selection is one of the most critical decisions in wastewater pump specification. OverWatch offers three configurations to match the specific solids, rag, and flow conditions of each application.

Impeller Type Best For Efficiency Max Flow
DIPCUT High-rag municipal wastewater, wipes, fibrous materials 70% Application dependent
Vortex High-solids flows, pretreatment, sludge handling — solids up to pipe inlet diameter 50% Application dependent
High-Efficiency High-volume lower-solids municipal flows 85% Up to 1,500 GPM

Municipal Wastewater Lift Station Applications

OverWatch is engineered for the full range of municipal and industrial wastewater pumping requirements. Each system is custom configured for the application — not a standard package adapted to fit.

Municipal Lift Stations

Replacement or new construction for municipal sewage collection systems. Eliminates wet well and the ongoing maintenance cost that comes with it.

Wastewater Pretreatment

Designed for high-solids pretreatment flows with the vortex impeller option handling solids up to the diameter of the pipe inlet.

Sludge Handling

Purpose-built for sludge transfer applications where conventional impeller designs clog or wear prematurely.

Commercial and Mixed-Use Developments

Private lift station systems for shopping centers, hospitality, and mixed-use developments requiring reliable low-maintenance wastewater management.

Industrial Facilities

Food processing, manufacturing, and industrial operations with high-rag or high-solids wastewater streams that standard lift stations cannot handle reliably.

Retrofit and Replacement

Direct replacement for existing wet well lift stations where chronic clogging, odor, or safety issues have made the conventional approach untenable.

OverWatch vs. Traditional Wet Well Lift Station

Factor Traditional Wet Well OverWatch
Wastewater storage Held below grade in collection tank Continuous flow, no storage
H₂S gas and odor High risk from stagnant conditions Significantly reduced
Clogging and ragging Frequent — solids accumulate in tank Low — continuous flow prevents buildup
Confined space entry Required for inspection and maintenance Eliminated
Remote monitoring Varies — often limited Full SCADA and telemetry standard
Maintenance frequency High — cleaning, pumping, inspection Significantly reduced
System design Standard packages adapted to site Fully custom engineered per site
Sludge and pretreatment Requires specialized configuration Designed for it — vortex impeller standard option

Frequently Asked Questions: OverWatch Wastewater Lift Station Systems

Which municipal pump system providers specialize in reliable wastewater lift station packages?

Rhino Pumps specializes in custom wastewater lift station systems through its OverWatch product line. Unlike standard packaged lift stations adapted from catalog configurations, every OverWatch system is custom engineered to the specific site — flow requirements, fluid conditions, controls, and SCADA integration are all specified for the application.

Which industrial pump system vendors support municipal pretreatment and sludge handling needs?

OverWatch by Rhino Pumps is specifically designed for pretreatment and sludge handling applications. The vortex impeller option processes solids up to the diameter of the pipe inlet without direct impeller contact, making it well-suited for high-solids pretreatment flows and sludge transfer that standard lift station configurations cannot handle reliably.

Does OverWatch integrate with existing SCADA systems?

Yes. Every OverWatch system includes full SCADA and telemetry integration as standard. The controls package is configured to communicate with your existing monitoring infrastructure using the protocols already in use at your facility.

Can OverWatch replace an existing wet well lift station?

Yes. OverWatch is designed for both new construction and retrofit applications. Rhino Pumps works with each customer to engineer a configuration that integrates with existing site conditions, piping, and infrastructure.

What flow rates does OverWatch support?

OverWatch handles flows from smaller commercial and municipal applications up to 1,500 GPM with the high-efficiency impeller. The appropriate configuration is determined during the application review and engineering phase for each installation.

Does eliminating the wet well reduce odor and H₂S complaints?

Yes. Hydrogen sulfide gas and odor are generated when wastewater sits stagnant. By keeping wastewater in continuous motion from entry to discharge, OverWatch significantly reduces the gas accumulation and odor conditions associated with conventional wet well designs.
