Mining Pumps for Dewatering, Heap Leach, Slurry and Process Water

Rhino Pumps supplies, packages and repairs pumps for working mines across Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Washington and Colorado. Most of what we do for mines falls into four jobs:

• Dewatering: pit sumps, underground sumps and deep mine dewatering with submersible, self-priming and vertical turbine pumps.
• Heap leach solution pumping: barren and pregnant solution pumps for gold and copper leach pads and ponds.
• Slurry and tailings: Metso horizontal and vertical slurry pumps, wear parts and rebuilds. Rhino is the exclusive Metso slurry pump distributor for Utah, Idaho and Nevada.
• Process water and fire water: RhinoStak skid packages built and tested in our shop, with controls and VFDs available as an option.

Our field crews are MSHA trained and Rhino is Avetta compliant. When a pump comes out of service, it goes to our Pleasant Grove, Utah shop for teardown, root cause analysis, machining and dynamic balancing to ISO 1940, and it comes back with an eight-document QA package.

Mine Dewatering and Heap Leach Solution Pumps

Pit and sump dewatering

Open pit water ends up in a sump at the low point of the pit, and the pump there has to live with grit, changing water levels and a move every time the pit floor drops. We supply electric submersible dewatering pumps, self-priming and trash pumps for pit and underground sumps, plus booster stages when the water has to climb out of the pit. We size to the head and solids you actually see, not a clean water curve.

Deep mine dewatering

When the lift is high, vertical turbine pumps make sense because head is added stage by stage in one pump. We supply vertical turbine pumps for deep mine dewatering and rebuild them in our shop. More on that in Vertical Turbine Pumps for Deep Mine Dewatering.

Heap leach solution pumps

Heap leach runs on solution moving in a loop: barren solution pumped up to the pad, pregnant solution collected and pumped to the plant. We supply vertical turbine pumps for solution ponds and horizontal centrifugal pumps for transfer and pad distribution. Gold leach solution runs alkaline and copper leach solution runs acidic, so wetted materials get picked for the chemistry. Northern Nevada gold operations are served from our Elko location.

Slurry, Tailings and Process Water Systems

Rhino Pumps is the exclusive Metso slurry pump distributor for Utah, Idaho and Nevada. We supply Metso horizontal and vertical slurry pumps for cyclone feed, thickener underflow and tailings transfer, along with OEM wear parts. See the lineup on our Metso slurry pumps page.

Wear parts and slurry pump rebuilds

Slurry pumps wear by design. We supply OEM liners, impellers and throatbushes, and rebuild slurry pumps in our shop when a full overhaul makes more sense than another parts swap. Process water and fire water packages

For mine process water, booster duty and fire water, we build RhinoStak skid packages with pumps, motors, piping and instrumentation sized to the job, then test them in our shop before they ship. Controls and VFDs are optional and come from our UL 508A listed panel shop. Where a fire water system calls for listed equipment, we supply UL/FM listed fire pumps built to NFPA 20.
